The Fight City Podcast No. 42

Time for a new edition of our podcast, hosted, as always, by Alden Chodash. On this episode, the focus is on the recently announced Showtime boxing schedule, which features, among other matches, a middleweight showdown between Jermall Charlo and Sergiy Derevyanchenko. Plus, some reflections on the latest Top Rank card with wins from Oscar Valdez and Kim Clavel, and a look back at some of the best fights of the 1990’s. Check it out:

“The bout itself justified the concerns of those who subsequently called on Valdez to walk away from it as Quigg clearly did his best to exploit the weight advantage, bulling the smaller man to the ropes and roughing him up in the clinches, even throwing the champion to the canvas before slamming home kidney punches and low blows. But full credit to the champion as he kept his composure and used his greater handspeed and punch output to carry most of the rounds. It was a competitive and fast-paced war that saw both men endure serious punishment; Quigg suffered a broken nose and Valdez a broken jaw. But in the end Valdez clearly deserved the decision and the judges rewarded him with a lopsided points win.”       From “The Weekend That Was” by Robert Portis
