The Future Is Bright
Undefeated super middleweight Erik Bazinyan was the headliner as he scored perhaps the most significant victory yet in his professional career, but his was not the only stand-out performance of the night. In total there were ten tilts on Saturday night’s Eye Of The Tiger card at the casino and fight fans were treated to a series of excellent showcase matches as the event demonstrated once again why we call Montreal “The Fight City.”
Manny Montreal was ringside and not only does he have a full and insightful recap of all the action, but he also was able to interview several of the night’s premier performers. Check it out:
The Results: The show began with an eight round cruiserweight match that saw Arutyan Avetisyan improve to 11-0 with a second round TKO of Mauricio Barragan (17-5). A pair of big left hooks decided matters and word is Avetisyan’s power won him a contract with Eye Of The Tiger Management. Check out the interview below. Next, Kim Clavel improves to 4-0 with a win over Cinthia Martinez (4-3-1) in a light flyweight match that, as Manny notes, was Clavel’s best performance to date.
Lightweight prospect Ablaikhan Khussainov returns from a six month break to improve to 9-0 with a second round, body punch KO over Jesus Laguna (22-13-3). As Manny says, “The rest did him good.” Francois Pratte Bernard is now 8-0 after defeating Oscar Mata (7-4-1) by decision in a super bantamweight tilt and super welterweight Sadriddin Akhmedov — in Manny’s words “a natural star” — moves to 4-0 after he stops Jesus Javier Mendoza (7-6-1) in less than one minute of action.
Cruiserweight Artur Ziyatdinov scored win number seven when one of his heavy jabs broke the nose of Francisco Rivas (12-2) in round three. Check out the gory photo in Manny’s video. Monstrous heavyweight Arslanbek Makhmudov has four KO’s in four fights after he stopped Emilio Ezequiel Zarate (21-21-3) in round two. And Montreal welterweight Ghislain Maduma notched the second win of his comeback with an eight round unanimous decision over Diego Gonzalo Luque (21-7-1). Manny was “very impressed.”
In the co-main event, rising super lightweight contender Mathieu “G-Time” Germain (16-0) put on a clinic and scored a decision win over Carlos Jimenez (14-9-1). Inexplicably, one official scored the fight for Jimenez. Manny wants something done about this judge! He “clearly did not watch the same fight as everyone else!” And finally, Erik Bazinyan defeats very tough “live dog” Francy Ntetu (17-3) by TKO in round six to improve his undefeated record to 21 straight wins with 16 KO’s. One of his “best performances,” according to Manny. The future remains “very bright.” Check out all the videos!
