Fight Report: Salido vs Kokietgym
In a fight that is quickly generating buzz as a Fight of the Year candidate, former featherweight champ Orlando “Siri” Salido staged a vicious war with tough perennial contender Terdsak Kokietgym last night in Tijuana, Mexico. The contest featured multiple knockdowns from both sides and scintillating action throughout eleven grueling rounds. The bout was fought for an interim super featherweight title, and it represented Salido’s first outing at 130 pounds after losing his featherweight title on the scales when he failed to make weight for his contest against Vasyl Lomachenko.
And it was a trial by fire for the rugged 33-year-old veteran, as Kokietgym sent Salido to the canvas early in the first round, in what would be only the first knockdown of the night. Salido–best known for breaking former Puerto Rican star Juanma Lopez’ winning streak with a couple of knockouts–had to dig deep and will his way to victory last night.
Below you can find the full video of the fight, which is a must-see for those who like their boxing raw and full of drama. However, it should be noted Salido vs. Kokietgym is not recommended viewing for the purists, as defense was simply not part of either fighter’s gameplan. But in a year which has severely lacked for action and unpredictability in boxing, this contest serves as a timely reminder that a good fight can break out at any time, anywhere.
