Montreal Pro-Am Gala
Boxemontreal.com, in collaboration with Eye of the Tiger Management, hosts a PRO-AM gala tonight at the Claude-Robillard Sports Complex in Montreal, with IBF junior world champion Steven Butler (16-0-1, 13 KOs) facing off against Brazil’s Robson Assis (16-2), the current WBO Latino champion, in the main event.
Also appearing: top prospect Batyr Jukembaev (3-0), lightweight Roodsy Vincent in his pro debut, welterweight Mike Breton (0-1), plus Canadian amateur champions Armand Miclescu and Giovan Major.
Manny Montreal covered the live workouts earlier in the week at the Underdog Boxing Gym in downtown Montreal. Check out the videos featuring the boxers working the pads and punching bags, plus an exclusive interview with Robson Assis.
This could be the young Butler’s toughest test to date. Eye Of The Tiger Management’s Camille Estephan is looking to push his fighter’s development with some strong opposition: “For Steven, we want to see how he’ll react against a veteran, a southpaw who’s known for being aggressive and who’s coming to win.’’
Plus, this will be the young Jukembaev’s fourth outing in less than two months as he seeks to get his pro career moving quickly. The former Olympian, managed by Anna Reva, looks like a solid bet to be a future world champion, as does Butler. That’s the main attraction of this event: to see two future champs in action as they further development and progress towards bigger and better matches in the near future.
