Loma vs Rigo: The Tactical Overview

It’s a match many hardcore fight fans never thought would happen, one they scarcely dared to hope for. “Hi-Tech” vs “El Chacal.” Loma vs Rigo. Two supreme ring technicians, both incredibly talented, both with amazing records and sterling credentials, both widely regarded as two of the best pugilists on the planet, and both given a wide berth by prospective opponents.

Guillermo Rigondeaux

In fact, it’s difficult to overstate how exceptional this match-up is. All you have to do is consider their respective amateur records to realize that Loma vs Rigo represents a meeting of supreme ring wizards. Between the two of them they boast an astonishing 859 amateur victories against only 13 defeats. They each have two Olympic gold medals. The Cuban exile won a world title in only his seventh pro bout; the Ukrainian phenom fought for one in his second pro outing and won it in his third.

Vasyl Lomachenko

Considering the skill involved, one can only conclude that in terms of tactics, this could well prove to be a veritable masterclass, something very rare and very fascinating. And naturally, esteemed analyst Lee Wylie was moved to create another of his brilliant videos, offering his own insightful “tactical overview” as we get set for what will hopefully be a most memorable and momentous showdown on December 9th. Quite possibly the greatest matchup in the past 20+ years. Bold statement but may be true.
